The IReeN Committee

P Simon Parsons M.Sc FCIPPdip MBCS

One of the founding IReeN committee members.

He is the UK Compliance Strategy Director working for the HR & Payroll services company SD Worx (formerly Centrefile and Ceridian).

He is also Director at PAYadvice.UK

He is a Fellow of the CIPP holding the Master of Science in Payroll Management and also the Chair of BCS Payroll Specialist Group (the Chartered Institute for IT).

Simon is a representative on industry groups and even if he isn’t directly representing IReeN at these meetings will always put IReeN members priorities and issues to these meetings.

Simon has been Chair of IReeN since being formed back 2002, chairing both the committee meetings and national meetings and is a past winner of the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement in Payroll and was named CIPP Person of the year 2006.

He is a listed as part of the Reward 300 2020

Maria Hennessey

Maria is a founding member of IReeN, and is the Payroll Manager for McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd. Also responsible for processing the payroll for 70 McDonald’s Franchisee companies. She works within a team of 10 that are responsible for small/medium/large employers with high volumes of new starters/leavers on a fortnightly & monthly basis.

McDonalds originally electronically exchanged data with HMRC using EDI via a third party company..

Maria acts as the Deputy Chair of the HMRC TDSF (Tax Data Standard Forum) and is involved in various consultations/CUG groups on request by HMRC/DWP/Auto Enrolment (NEST).

She is a advocate of sharing best practice/data quality & automation.

Helen Harvey

Helen is the founder of Zinnia Payroll Consultants Ltd, which she started after working for 20 years with Nannytax, the largest UK payroll bureau specialising in domestic employment and grew the business from 1000 clients to more than 12000.

She joined IReeN in 2003 when asked by HMRC to test their online filing systems and in 2012 was asked to join the RTI Pilot process, and worked with HMRC and the RTI taskforce to bring about improvements to the system.

Helen has the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement in Payroll; she has regularly appeared on BBC Radio 4 Moneybox Live and is often asked to attend HMRC and HM Treasury workshops and is a regular industry panel expert.

Linda Pullan

Linda is an independent consultant. The former Head of Payroll Alliance responsible for the delivery of payroll training courses nationwide, 7 BTEC payroll qualifications, consultancy, membership services, in house training.

Linda represented Payroll Alliance members on government panels for over 20 years.

Linda is a regular contributor to the Pay industry journals, the first editor of the Payroll World Magazine (now Reward Strategy) also updating author of the Payroll Fact File and Tolley’s Tax Planning book. She also is a regular contributor to Taxation magazine.

Linda is a past winner of the Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement in Payroll (2009) and listed as part of Reward 300 2020

Nick Clarke

Nick is a Product Director for Zellis and manages the product strategy & evolution of their digital platforms. Previously a Payroll Manager, Implementation & Business Consultant, Legislation Manager and an Operational Payroll Outsourcing Director he has always been involved in legislation and technology changes.

Nick represents IReeN at technical forums.

He is also one of the organisers of the national meetings and designed the booking forms which enabled IReeN to automate its meeting booking process.

Keith Smart

Keith has over 30 years experience in the payroll industry, working across both public and private sectors for large employers such as BskyB, Diageo, Scottish & Newcastle, Aegon, Standard Life and NHS Scotland.

He is currently Payroll Manager with Heineken UK and has a history of delivering business change and efficiencies through system implementations, acquisitions/mergers & outsourcing. 

His focus is to improve through leveraging technology, process and service improvements and to lead and developing others to ensure success.

Paul Humphris

Paul is the Projects & Systems Manager GBS Finance Operations – Payroll & Expenses at Rolls Royce

Paul has been a member of IReeN from its early days and joined the IReeN committee back in 2017 taking on the position as honorary treasurer.

Brian Sparling ChMCIPPdip

Brian is a Senior Manager, Global Operations for Ceridian. He is a Chartered Member of the CIPP.

An experienced payroll leader with a demonstrated history of working across many industries and countries.

A strong operational focus, with high levels of technical knowledge and a Diploma in Payroll Management from CIPP.
Skilled in Coaching, HR Policies, Management, Performance Management, and TUPE / M&A.

Passionate about leading and inspiring people to be at their best and developing others growth both personally and professionally.

Samantha (Sam) Mann

Sam acts as Payroll Training Consultant at Armstrong Watson

Sam was the former Senior Policy & Research Officer at the Chartered Institute for Payroll and Pensions professionals (CIPP) and acted as their link committee member of IReeN.

We are pleased to have Sam now join the full committee.
